This 4 days, 3 nights safari combines two of Tanzania’s most iconic safari destinations: Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) and the legendary Serengeti National Park. Begin with two days exploring the wild and unspoiled landscapes of Nyerere, where boat safaris on the Rufiji River, game drives, and walking safaris immerse you in untouched African wilderness. Then, journey to the Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its vast plains, big cats, and the Great Wildebeest Migration. This safari is perfect for travelers seeking a short yet action-packed adventure filled with spectacular wildlife sightings and authentic safari experiences.
Day 1:
Dar es Salaam - Nyerere National Park
Depart from Dar es Salaam and drive (or fly) to Nyerere National Park, Africa’s largest protected wildlife area. Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive, exploring the park’s diverse landscapes of grasslands, woodlands, and riverine habitats. Look out for elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos, and rare African wild dogs. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay under the African night sky.
Day 2:
Nyerere National Park
Spend a full day experiencing Nyerere’s unique safari activities. Begin with a boat safari on the Rufiji River, where crocodiles bask along the banks and pods of hippos laze in the water. Bird enthusiasts will love spotting kingfishers, bee-eaters, and fish eagles. In the afternoon, set off on a guided walking safari, getting closer to nature while learning about animal tracks, plants, and smaller wildlife. Later, enjoy a sundowner overlooking the river before dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 3:
Nyerere - Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight to the Serengeti National Park. On arrival, begin your adventure with a thrilling game drive en route to your lodge or camp. The Serengeti’s sweeping savannahs are home to incredible wildlife including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and countless wildebeests and zebras. After settling in, enjoy an afternoon game drive and soak in the golden Serengeti sunset before dinner and overnight.
Day 4:
Serengeti National Park & Departure
Wake up early for a sunrise game drive, the best time to witness predators on the hunt and animals grazing in the cool morning air. Capture your final safari moments before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Depending on your schedule, enjoy another short game drive before transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Arusha or Dar es Salaam, marking the end of your unforgettable safari through Nyerere and Serengeti.
